The Holiday break was mostly unproductive, but I did manage to get some practice sketches in.

I have decided that I am going to make the Psyche & Cupid piece in photoshop instead of ZBrush.

I want to improve on my 2d skills because a fully realized 3d piece takes a tremendous amount of time to complete.

The one good sketch I drew from today's Life Drawing session.

Random demon character that I doodled while my internet was out.

Today I focused on Polypainting the creature since it was a short lunch.

The color definitely goes a long way to highlight areas of interest.

Progress on my Lunch Time ZBrush series is coming right along.

Today I worked on the face, but going forward I will be working on the model at large and less in specific areas.

It's been quite fun to model this without any plan or concept. :)

What is the pose for Eros & Psyche?

Over the last year or two, I've taken more time to develop the my ideas and flesh out the concept.

This is the result of being burned late in the process by incomplete or half-assed ideas.

So I take my time, let the ideas assemble over time then pick the ones that work well together.

Here are a few of the goals I this piece to fulfill:

1. Beautiful & Strong Anatomy with an interesting pose

2. Dynamic Stylized Cloth folds

3. Intricate Art Nouveau Patterns in Textile and Frame

4. Subtle saturated color-tones with Illustrated lines

5. Dramatic Wings on Eros

Here is the first test at what the pose could be. Since I want Eros to have an impressive wingspan, it seems natural that the two would be in flight. Eros holds Psyche by the hip, his left hand is open to hold a Bow. Psyche's legs are in an interesting pose, but her upper torso is just straight. I want to maintain the open pose, It will read better that way, but I feel like her right arm is hanging without purpose.

One idea is to use her right arm to establish another touch point with Eros, but the only natural placement would be on his chest which would close the pose.

Maybe I can include another element for her to hold in her hand, a intricate flower or maybe an arrow.

I'll need to do a draw-over to visualize what her dress could be. It may be the case that the dress will require her hips & legs to be angled away from Eros.

In preparation of my Eros & Psyche project, I've been creating Sculpts during my lunch break.
The plan is to eventually include a commentary that will give insight into my process, and in turn become more aware of how I can be a more effective artist.

A Fresh Start

So I've decided to rework this dead blog into something more productive.

My goal for this blog is to document the progression of my art projects. I hope that the Readers will benefit by following my progress.
At the same time I will be recording timelapses of my ZBrush sculptures, posted to my youtube, so that the viewers can see how I work.

Hopefully I will be able to keep this updated consistently.

Previously I had used this blog to post progress of my ODST Character model, which turned out very well in the end.

Since then I created a character named Ariadne, whom is another Sci-fi character in armor. The goal with her was to create a strong, feminine Sci-fi character but avoid the cliche overly sexualized heroine.

I am very proud of Ariadne!

So going forward, I am planning on making a tribute piece to Alphonse Mucha, and his art nouveau style.

His style is very inspirational! I love the mid-tones, clean elegant lines, and dynamic sweeping folds of fabric!

The topic of this tribute will by Eros (Cupid) & Psyche. It will be an interesting mix of Art Nouveau and classic Greeko-Roman sculpture.
